Microsecond measurement resolution for process cycle diagnostics of micro-EDM milling

Ceramics are non-conductive materials, consequently, they cannot be machined directly by any electrical means. If these ceramics contain some small fractions of conductive components, e.g., as pollutant or glue perform a certain, really low level, local and accidental flash conductivity. The reported research was performed on this border science, with that below the practical also state-of-the-art conductivity level for machining. Even so, micro-Electric Discharge Machining (micro-EDM) cermaics developed varying many times uncertain success. paper describes required, extended measuring system micro discharge milling machine equipped linear encoder, voltage, current sensors. With help installed system, ceramic Al 2 O 3 –TiC mixture tested, in particular, process stability, geometric transient zones edges grooves.
